PLN West Java Expands Rural Electricity Access for 2,930 Customers Across 210 Locations

The expansion of the electricity network into rural areas of West Java continues. This year, PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) West Java has built electricity networks through the Village Electricity Programme (Lisdes) in 210 locations. The infrastructure opens access for approximately 2,930 prospective customers to obtain PLN electricity services. The programme is being delivered to communities including those in Sukamaju Village, Sukabumi Regency; Cilangari Village, West Bandung Regency; and Cipendawa Village, Cianjur Regency. The presence of the electricity network serves as a crucial foundation for expanding public access to energy while supporting the development of education, economic activity, and public services in these areas. Children’s evening study activities are now more optimal, home-based entrepreneurs have the opportunity to increase productivity, and the community finds it easier to access information and technology. General Manager of PLN UID West Java, Muhammad Joharifin, stated that the Lisdes Programme is part of PLN’s commitment to ensuring all citizens have equal opportunities to enjoy the benefits of electrical energy as a foundation for development. “Electricity is not merely about providing lighting, but also about opening up opportunities. When electricity arrives in an area, the community gains greater access to education, economic activity, public services, and various opportunities that can improve quality of life. Therefore, equalising electricity access is an important part of driving more inclusive development,” he asserted. To deliver electricity to the 210 locations, during the first semester of 2026 PLN UID West Java built 46.82 circuit kilometres of Medium Voltage Network, 190.18 circuit kilometres of Low Voltage Network, and distribution substations with a total capacity of 3,750 kVA. This infrastructure forms the backbone for expanding the reach of electricity services while ensuring the public can enjoy a reliable power supply. Building electricity networks in rural areas is not without challenges, ranging from difficult geographical conditions and limited access to locations, to dynamic weather conditions. However, through synergy with the West Java Provincial Government, district and city governments, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, and the support of local communities, these challenges were overcome so that construction could proceed according to plan. PLN UID West Java is committed to continuing the Village Electricity Programme as part of efforts to deliver equitable energy. Through sustainable electricity infrastructure development and collaboration with various stakeholders, PLN is optimistic that increasingly even electricity access will drive economic growth, improve human resource quality, and strengthen village development throughout West Java.
