Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of PLN Watch, KRT Tohom Purba, views the development of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) up to 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) as a progressive step that builds a more resilient national energy foundation. “This is not merely a short-term solution, but preparedness to face future energy dynamics,” said Tohom in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday. According to Tohom, amid geopolitical tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel that significantly impact global energy stability, Indonesia must take steps to strengthen its domestic energy resilience. Therefore, he considers PT PLN (Persero)’s efforts in promoting energy efficiency and accelerating the transition to New Renewable Energy (EBT) as the right and long-term oriented strategy. Tohom conveyed that the current global dynamics are not only related to energy price fluctuations but also concern control over resources and national economic sustainability. “Countries that can control their energy will have a stronger bargaining position, and PLN is moving in that direction,” he stated. The dieselisation programme, which shifts diesel power plants to renewable energy, is also seen as capable of curbing fuel imports while strengthening the national energy balance. Meanwhile, the biomass co-firing strategy in coal-fired power plants is viewed as a realistic and adaptive transition approach, while maintaining a balance between energy needs and environmental commitments. “Indonesia must not only be a global energy consumer, but also a producer and innovator in clean energy,” said Tohom.
