PLN UPDL Bogor Conducts Training on Operating Small-Scale Diesel Power Plants
Through direct practical sessions in the Generation Laboratory, participants were trained to operate small-scale PLTD safely, effectively, and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). PT PLN (Persero) Unit for Education and Training Implementation (UPDL) Bogor organised the Small-Scale PLTD Operation Training with code B.1.152.231.2 during the period of 2-3 March 2026 at PLN UPDL Bogor, located in the Soetami Building. This training programme is part of technical competency development, aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding and skills in operating small-scale Diesel Power Plants (PLTD) in accordance with applicable operational standards. The activity was authorised by the General Manager of PLN Training Centre, Y Endah Cahyaningrum, and implemented through a combination of theoretical learning and field practical sessions in the generation laboratory facilities. As part of the training series, the practical session on operating small-scale PLTD was conducted on 3 March 2026 in the Generation Laboratory (Small PLTD) of the Soetami Building, PLN UPDL Bogor. The practical session was guided by instructor Ridwan, who provided technical instructions and direct supervision to participants throughout the learning process. Before the activity began, the Team Leader of the PLN UPDL Bogor Laboratory, Dimas, delivered an opening address emphasising the importance of practice-based learning in enhancing technical competencies in the generation field. “Through this training and practical activity, we hope that participants not only understand the theoretical concepts of PLTD operation but are also able to apply them directly in the field, while prioritising aspects of safety, precision, and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures,” said Dimas in a statement reported on Monday (30/3/2026). In its implementation, the practical module was designed to provide participants with direct experience in performing various stages of small-scale PLTD operation, from start-up procedures, unit operation, load regulation of the plant, to systematic shutdown processes. Participants were also introduced to best practices in diesel plant operation and an understanding of potential operational disruptions that may occur during the power generation process. This learning approach, combining theory and practice, aims to ensure that participants can comprehend the working principles of generation equipment while enhancing technical skills in managing plant operations effectively and efficiently. Through the implementation of this training, PLN UPDL Bogor continues to commit to supporting the improvement of human resource competencies in the electricity sector, particularly in the fields of operation and maintenance of power plants. It is hoped that the participants will be able to implement the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to support safe, reliable, and sustainable power plant operations, while strengthening PLN’s contribution in providing quality electricity supply to the community.
