Jayapura (ANTARA) — PT PLN (Persero) Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) Jayapura, Papua, is conducting integrated power grid maintenance to anticipate severe weather and ensure reliable electricity supply to the public.

PLN UP3 Jayapura Manager Marthen Henderson said in Jayapura on Saturday that the measures were being taken as a preventive effort to minimise potential disruptions caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

"We are carrying out integrated maintenance comprehensively, ranging from felling and pruning trees encroaching on the grid, network rehabilitation through to thorough inspections of the medium-voltage network," he said.

According to Marthen, his team is also repairing the condition of grid construction, checking and tightening equipment connections, cleaning insulators and replacing components that have deteriorated in quality.

In addition, optimisation of the distribution network protection system and normalisation of identified disruption-prone points are also a focus of the maintenance activities.

He noted that recent power outages have largely been caused by routine maintenance of electricity infrastructure aimed at maintaining system reliability.

"Beyond that, there have also been momentary disruptions from trees touching power lines due to strong winds, as well as residents inadvertently felling trees onto the electricity network, and weather factors such as lightning," he added.

He said that should disruptions occur outside of these activities, the public could use the PLN Mobile application. His team continues to ensure the PLN Mobile application is functioning properly and without issues.

"Moreover, the current condition of the Jayapura electricity system is secure, with a generating capacity of 114.50 megawatts (MW), a peak load of 99.50 MW and a power reserve of 15.00 MW," he said.
