PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Jawa Barat has supported environmental recovery and disaster mitigation by planting 1,000 trees in the landslide-affected area of Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency. The activity, carried out on 17 June 2026, is part of the Green Resilience 2026 programme and marks the commemoration of World Environment Day, while also contributing to the restoration of the ecosystem damaged by a landslide earlier in the year. The landslide, which occurred on 24 January 2026 due to high rainfall, caused land degradation, buried residential areas under soil and rocks, and resulted in casualties. The affected area subsequently became barren and vulnerable to erosion and further landslides. As a demonstration of its concern, PLN UID West Java provided 1,000 tree seedlings, planting equipment, and three months of plant care assistance to ensure the success of the reforestation effort. The programme was implemented through collaboration with various stakeholders, including the West Java Provincial Forestry Service, the West Java Provincial Environmental Service, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Perum Perhutani KPH Bandung Utara, the Pasirlangu Village Government, and local nature enthusiast communities. PLN UID West Java General Manager Sugeng Widodo stated that the programme reflects PLN’s commitment to communities and environments affected by disasters. He expressed gratitude to the Cisarua District and Pasirlangu Village governments for the opportunity to contribute to the recovery of the landslide-affected area. He noted that the disaster not only caused environmental damage but also brought sorrow to the community, and PLN aimed to be present not just through electricity services but also through tangible actions benefiting both the environment and society. He added that World Environment Day serves as a reminder that preserving nature requires collaboration and participation from all parties. Through the planting of 1,000 trees, PLN hopes the affected area will gradually recover, becoming greener, stronger, and capable of providing ecological and social benefits to the surrounding community, as part of its commitment to supporting sustainable development and strengthening environmental resilience against climate change. A functional expert from the West Java Provincial Environmental Service, Eko, expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that reforestation is a strategic step in accelerating post-disaster recovery and strengthening future disaster mitigation efforts. He noted that the programme not only aids in restoring the landslide-affected area but also supports soil and water conservation, increases vegetation cover, and enhances environmental resilience against potential future disasters. Through the Green Resilience 2026 programme, PLN UID West Java aims to achieve long-term benefits including increased vegetation cover, reduced risk of erosion and land degradation, improved water absorption capacity, support for carbon sequestration, and the cultivation of public awareness regarding the importance of environmental stewardship. PLN believes that post-disaster environmental recovery requires sustained collaboration, and the programme therefore focuses not only on tree planting but also on fostering a spirit of mutual cooperation and shared responsibility to create a greener, more resilient, and sustainable environment for future generations.
