PLN turns of electricity

JAYAPURA, Papua: State-owned PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has imposed alternate brownouts to parts of Jayapura, capital of Papua province, due to damage in its diesel-powered electricity generators in the city.

The local office of PT PLN said here on Tuesday that the power shortage was caused by damage to one of the engines which was moved from Samarinda, East Kalimantan, three years ago.

It said it had ordered the supply of spare parts to replace the ones no longer functioning.

It also called on shops in the city to use their own home generators to help distribute more power to their neighbors in the city. --Antara
