PLN to turn off power generators

JAKARTA: The distribution unit of the state-owned electricity company that oversees Jakarta, PLN, will turn off the city's power generators in Priok, Pluit, Bandengan, Kota, Kapuk -- as well as other areas along Ciliwung River -- to avoid possible electrocutions after this week's flooding.

On Friday, PLN officials were quoted by Antara as saying that the power will be restored when water is cleared from the areas affected by the flooding, which hit the capital Monday and Tuesday.

The company has urged all Jakartans to quickly switch off their electricity supply in the event that their houses become flooded, and report the situation directly to the nearest PLN branch office. -- JP
