PT PLN Batam and PT Equator Gate System (EGS) Batam have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to support the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Nongsa, Batam City.
The agreement was signed at the Tanjung Kasam Hall, PLN Batam Corporate Office, on Monday, 25 May 2026.
Under the agreement, PLN Batam will supply electricity in phases to support EGS Batam’s large-scale data centre operations.
“BP Batam welcomes the investment commitment for the EGS AI Data Centre mega-project in Nongsa. This is not just about building a data centre, but also part of joint efforts to establish a robust and competitive digital ecosystem,” said Li Claudia in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
She added that energy infrastructure readiness is a key factor in attracting digital and information technology industry investments to Batam.
Therefore, BP Batam hopes PLN Batam can continue to ensure stable, reliable, and sustainable power supply to support strategic industrial operations.

The AI-based data centre will be constructed on a 30-hectare site and designed as a hub for AI, machine learning, and modern cloud computing processing in Southeast Asia.
Efendi noted that energy collaboration with PLN Batam is crucial for ensuring the operational reliability of the data centre.
He added that the investment is expected to strengthen Batam’s position as a regional digital infrastructure hub while driving investment growth, digital talent development, and a high-tech economy.
PLN Batam’s President Director, Kwin Fo, said the partnership with EGS Batam holds strategic significance for both PLN Batam and Batam City in supporting the development of a digital economy ecosystem and high-tech industries.
