PLN Targets Electrification of 300 Homes in Taelarek District

Jayapura (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit for Papua and West Papua is targeting around 300 homes in Taelarek District, Jayawijaya Regency, to soon enjoy electricity supply after the first phase of energisation for public facilities in the area was successfully completed.

General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit for Papua and West Papua, Roberth Rumsaur, said in Jayapura on Sunday that the electricity network will be extended in stages so that communities in the mountainous area can gain access to reliable energy.

“At present, electricity is only available at the district office and the community health centre; next, we will connect the network to 300 residents’ homes in Taelarek District so they can have lighting at night,” he said.

According to Roberth, the success in bringing electricity to Taelarek District is proof of the company’s commitment to expanding electricity services to mountainous regions that pose geographical challenges.

“The provision of electricity not only improves the quality of public services, but is also a step towards promoting community welfare through more equitable access to energy,” he said.

He explained that to deliver electricity to Taelarek District, PLN built a 5.75-kilometre circuit of medium-voltage network (JTM), a 6.48-kilometre circuit of low-voltage network (JTR), and two distribution substations with a capacity of 50 kVA each, connected to the Jayawijaya electricity system.

“Therefore, we also hope for the involvement of the regional government and the community so that the process of extending the electricity network to residents’ homes can run smoothly,” he added.

He said PLN hopes the presence of electricity in Taelarek District will also improve the quality of life of local residents, support healthcare and education services, and open up opportunities for new economic activities in the area.
