PLN takes tough action on arrears

MANADO, North Sulawesi: The Manado branch office of state
electricity company PLN in North Sulawesi has disconnected a
total of 400 electricity meters at buildings whose owners are in
arrears by a total of at least Rp 250 million.

"We shall continue this measure, as there are still 700
indebted subscribers who are in arrears," head of the Manado PLN
branch distribution unit Simon Supit said here on Thursday.

The subscribers live in Manado, Bitung and the regency of
Minahasa, said Simon, adding that the total arrears reached Rp
750 million.

Supit did not clarify if all those in arrears were individuals
or companies.

He acknowledged that power supply to the public had been far
from ideal, citing that blackouts had been imposed occasionally
in some areas.

"We could not avoid that as there has been a drop in the level
of water to drive the generator in Tanggari," said Supit.
