Padang (ANTARA) - PLN’s Integrated Distribution Unit of West Sumatra (Sumbar) continues to pursue electricity restoration after a system disruption that had caused outages in several areas since 18:44 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

By 22:50 WIB, a portion of Sumbar’s system had progressively normalised again from the available hydroelectric (PLTA) and micro-hydroelectric (PLTMH) sources, accounting for around 27 percent of the system’s demand, said Yesi Yuliani, PLN UID Sumbar Communications Manager, in Padang on Friday.

Yesi said that, specifically for Steam Power Plants (PLTU) and Geothermal Power Plants, operation normalisation was still awaited. The local PLN unit assured that field teams are continuing inspections of the electrical system disruptions occurring in various areas in the Ranah Minang.

Apart from Sumbar, outages also occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau. Since the disruption, PLN immediately deployed technical teams to check all systems and networks and trace the causes of the disruption.

Finally, PLN urged the public to remain calm and not panic. Information on the handling of the disruption will be communicated regularly through the PLN Mobile app and the PLN 123 contact centre service.

Meanwhile, a resident of Bukittinggi City, Ica, said the power outage had not only affected household needs but also disrupted communications via the WhatsApp application.

“During the blackout, I had difficulty contacting family via WhatsApp to ask after their condition. I hope PLN quickly resolves this issue,” she said.
