PLN: Sumatra power grid restored to normal
PLN has restored Sumatra’s electricity system following a blackout on Friday, May 22. ‘Alhamdulillah, thanks to the relentless efforts of all field personnel and support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and various local parties, the Sumatra electricity system has now returned to normal,’ said PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo.
PLN completed the restoration of the Sumatra electricity system after a major disturbance in the interconnection transmission network. By Sunday 06.00 WIB, 176 affected substations had been restored, with power supply to customers gradually returning.
Darmawan stated that the entire restoration process was carried out intensively since the disturbance began on Friday. PLN worked with the government and stakeholders to gradually restore the power generation system, transmission network, substations, and distribution to the public.
‘Customers affected are now receiving power supply gradually,’ Darmawan said.
He explained that the restoration prioritised system safety and reliability. After the Sumatra transmission network was reconnected, PLN proceeded with generator startups and synchronisation, gradually integrating power into the transmission system to restore supply step by step.
Darmawan also thanked the public for their patience and support during the restoration process. ‘We thank the public for their patience and support during the restoration,’ he said.
