Makassar, South Sulawesi - PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi Sulawesi Selatan, Sulawesi Tenggara, dan Sulawesi Barat (UID Sulselrabar) has achieved Gold awards at the Indonesian CSR Awards (ICA) and Indonesian SDGs Awards (ISDA) 2026 through its plastic waste processing initiative.

This plastic waste processing is part of a social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) programme conducted in collaboration with RAPPO Living: From Plastic Waste to Circular Furniture.

“Through RAPPO Living, PLN supports the community in processing plastic waste into products with economic value. Support in terms of facilities, skill enhancement, and mentoring is expected to create job opportunities while strengthening community independence,” said General Manager of PLN UID Sulselrabar, Edyansyah, in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Friday.

He stated that the awards serve as motivation for PLN to continue developing TJSL programmes that benefit the environment while simultaneously boosting the economic independence of the community.

The awards ceremony involved 275 participants and served as a platform to appreciate the implementation of corporate social responsibility programmes and their contributions to achieving sustainable development.

RAPPO Living is a collaborative programme between PLN UID Sulselrabar and Rappo Indonesia that processes plastic waste into useful and economically valuable furniture and accessories.

The programme targets coastal communities in the Untia Village, Makassar City, by integrating environmental management and community economic empowerment through a circular economy approach.

In its implementation, PLN provides support in the form of production facilities, training, and mentoring to the coastal residents of Untia.

According to programme data, RAPPO Living has processed approximately 10.2 tonnes of plastic waste, involving more than 200 community members in waste collection activities.

The collected high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) plastics are subsequently processed into various furniture products and accessories.

In addition to reducing the potential for environmental pollution, these activities provide opportunities for the community to enhance their skills and earn income from waste processing.

The sustainability of the programme is strengthened through collaboration with waste banks, collectors, environmental communities, and various partners in raw material collection, product development, and marketing.

PLN UID Sulselrabar stated that winning Gold at the ICA and ISDA Awards 2026 reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering innovative, collaborative, and sustainable TJSL programmes through the development of a circular economy in coastal communities.
