Makassar - PLN’s Distribution Main Unit for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar) recorded an additional 369 new customers from the agricultural sector in the Sulselrabar region in May 2026. As of May 2025, total agricultural electrification customers stood at 3,911 with a total installed capacity of 194,949 kiloVolt Amperes (kVA), while in the same period of 2026 the figure reached 4,280 customers with total installed capacity of 206,312 kVA. “This figure shows the growing public trust in utilising electricity to support productive activities in the agricultural sector,” said PLN UID Sulselrabar General Manager Edyansyah in Makassar on Tuesday. The presence of reliable electricity and competitive tariffs is part of PLN’s effort to drive the wheels of the community’s economy, including in the agricultural sector, he stressed. He said agricultural electrification is here to help increase the productivity of community businesses in farming, plantations, and fisheries. “This is a form of PLN’s support for the government’s programme to strengthen national food security,” Edyansyah stated. He explained that the agricultural electrification programme is designed to accelerate the transformation towards modern, electricity-based agriculture. The use of more efficient agricultural technology is expected to increase productivity while creating added value for the community. Through the programme, he said PLN seeks to create Creating Shared Value (CSV) that delivers mutual benefits for the community, the environment, and the regional economy. “When farmers are more productive and production costs become more efficient, the competitiveness of the agricultural sector will also strengthen,” he said. Through the Electrifying Agriculture programme, PLN not only provides energy access but also paves the way for the emergence of more modern, efficient, and sustainable agriculture. With more stable irrigation systems and increasingly accessible supporting technology, farmers have greater opportunities to improve harvest yields while strengthening regional and national food security. For PLN, every flow of electricity that powers a water pump on farmland is not merely flowing energy. Within it lies the hopes of farmers, the spirit to increase harvest yields, and the nation’s great aspiration to achieve food self-sufficiency. “From plantations that are now increasingly productive, electricity becomes the energy that drives the future. It brings farmers’ hopes to life, strengthens food security, and delivers more equitable prosperity for the community,” Edyansyah concluded.
