PT PLN (Persero) is supporting the Merah Putih Village/Urban-Ward Cooperative (KDKMP) programme through partnerships that enable cooperatives to process electricity-bill payments and sell prepaid electricity tokens. The collaboration creates business opportunities for cooperatives while bringing electricity services closer to the public.

At an event monitoring the operation of KDKMP cooperatives in Baki, Sukoharjo, Central Java, on Tuesday (13 October 2026), Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said that, in line with the President of Indonesia’s instructions, KDKMP is expected to provide a platform for communities to conduct economic activities and benefit directly from business growth in their areas.

“Through village cooperatives, Mr Prabowo said that villages should grow and become centres of economic growth, not just cities,” Zulkifli said.

He said partnerships with various parties were needed to enable cooperatives to provide services residents need, including electricity services through PLN. “People no longer need to travel far to pay their electricity bills. KDKMP now officially offers electricity payments for the convenience and comfort of all village residents,” Zulkifli said.

Separately, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo affirmed the company’s full commitment to supporting the KDKMP programme as part of the implementation of the President’s flagship programmes. This includes providing a reliable electricity supply and partnering on services that can generate added value for cooperatives.

“PLN is giving its full support to KDKMP. We are not only meeting cooperatives’ electricity needs but also creating business opportunities through bill-payment and electricity-token services. Cooperatives can therefore develop revenue sources, while the public gains easier access to services closer to home,” Darmawan said.

PLN Retail and Commerce Director M Fahrur Rozy said the Payment Point Online Bank (PPOB) service enables KDKMP cooperatives to act as channels for residents to pay bills and purchase electricity tokens. The service is being expanded through coordination with cooperatives and PLN units in various regions.

“We welcome the stronger role of Merah Putih Village and Urban-Ward Cooperatives as community service centres. As of October 2026, 107 KDKMP cooperatives across Indonesia had joined the development of PLN’s PPOB service, recording more than 2,000 electricity-related transactions. This is a positive step towards bringing electricity payments and token purchases closer to the public, while adding value to the economic activity of village and urban-ward cooperatives,” Rozy said.
