PLN strengthens electricity supply in Simeulue Island

PLN is strengthening the electricity supply for residents of Simeulue Island, Simeulue Regency, Aceh Province, by bringing in a generator with a capacity of two megawatts.

“The machine was brought in to strengthen the electricity supply in this island regency,” said Randi Salasa, Head of the PLN Sinabang Customer Service Unit, in Simeulue on Monday. Salasa noted that the generator was deployed to meet electricity demands that have previously been problematic, leading to frequent power outages in several areas of Simeulue Regency.

“The power generation machine has a capacity of two megawatts. It will eventually be placed at the regency’s power plant located in the Lasikin area,” added Salasa.

The Regent of Simeulue, Muhammad Nasrun Mikaris, expressed his appreciation to PLN for providing the generator and supporting equipment to address electrical disruptions in the regency. “This additional power is expected to help stabilise the electricity supply in Simeulue Regency. We hope this machine can minimise the power outages that have occurred frequently in this island regency lately,” he said. Mikaris also extended his gratitude to the government and PLN for the attention and support provided to the people of Simeulue.

Local resident Safdal stated that the arrival of the PLN machinery is expected to resolve the persistent electricity issues in the area. “Power outages occur almost every day on Simeulue Island. We hope that with this new generator, outages will not happen so frequently,” said Safdal.

Simeulue Regency is an outermost island territory in Aceh Province. Located in the Indian Ocean, Simeulue Island is approximately 180 nautical miles from the western coast of Sumatra. Simeulue Regency was carved out from West Aceh Regency in 1999 and comprises 10 districts and 138 villages, with a population of approximately 96,000 people.
