PLN states that gas and coal power plant operation days remain stable
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) has stated that up to April 2026, the operation days (HOP) for gas and coal power plants remain stable amid geopolitical turbulence due to the war between the United States (US) and Iran. “HOP or operation days for gas reserves average around 12 days. This means that, in general, LNG deliveries are scheduled and there are no significant obstacles,” said the President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, during a Hearing with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Monday. Darmawan noted that gas prices correlate with global oil prices. Currently, he added, the LNG spot market price is around 19–20 US dollars per mmBtu. “There is also a shortage of supply because Qatar has lost 5 million tonnes per year of production, which will take 5 years to recover,” he said. “For now, alhamdulillah, the government allocation is sufficient, so we do not need to import LNG,” Darmawan stated. Furthermore, the national coal HOP is also stable at 15.9 operation days. According to him, the stable coal HOP reflects a secure coal supply. “For this, we also appreciate the support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources so that the coal HOP trend continues to show improvement. This is certainly to strengthen the reliability of the national electricity supply,” Darmawan said. RM is the difference between the total installed electricity generation capacity and the peak electricity usage load. “The national electricity supply is in a reliable condition, and this is very important to support the continuity of economic growth and public needs,” Darmawan remarked.
