PT PLN (Persero), through PT PLN Batam, continues to support the development of Indonesia’s digital industry, including the global data centre project by PT Digitalland Service One (DayOne) in the Kabil Industrial Estate, Batam.

This is reflected in the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the largest capacity for a data centre in Indonesia to date, namely 511 megavolt amperes (MVA), at the Balairung Sari Auditorium, Batam Authority (BP), on Friday (17/4/2026).

The Head of BP Batam and Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad, emphasised that infrastructure readiness is key to attracting global digital investments. According to him, the integration of land availability, energy reliability, and legal certainty positions Batam as a strategically competitive area at the regional level.

“BP Batam is committed to providing a conducive investment climate through accelerated permitting and the provision of integrated supporting infrastructure. The entry of this large-scale data centre project proves that Batam is ready to become a world digital hub,” said Amsakar.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DayOne, Jamie Khoo, stated that the company’s expansion in the Batam region is part of a strategy to expand capacity and build a regional digital infrastructure platform in Asia.

“This expansion is an important milestone in our strategy to build one of Asia’s leading digital infrastructure platforms. Sustainable development in Batam, from the Nongsa industrial area to the Kabil industrial area, reflects Batam’s increasingly strategic role in the company’s regional ecosystem,” said Jamie.

He explained that this is also part of the company’s steps to develop the Singapore, Johor, and Riau (SIJORI) model as an integrated cross-border data centre platform in Southeast Asia.

“As we expand development in Batam, we continue to increase capacity to deliver large-scale, high-performance data centre services to meet the growing needs for cloud and advanced computing in the Asia-Pacific,” added Jamie.

On a different occasion, PLN’s President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that reliable and affordable electricity supply is an important foundation in driving industrial sustainability and growth.

This step not only provides energy supply but also creates a multiplier effect that will drive national economic growth.

“Electricity is the main driver of the economy. With strong and reliable electrical infrastructure, it not only sustains industrial activities but also creates a conducive climate for investment and opens up more job opportunities,” Darmawan said in a statement on Sunday (26/4/2026).

In line with that, the President Director of PT PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, stated that the PLN Batam electricity system is ready to serve large-scale customers like DayOne. This readiness is supported by sufficient supply, system reliability, and maintained service quality.

“We hope this cooperation benefits all parties and makes a real contribution to regional economic growth and improved investment climate in Batam. We are committed to maintaining the reliability of supply and electrical service quality to support sustainable industrial needs,” he concluded.
