PLN Says Coal Supply to Power Plants Running Smoothly
PT PLN (Persero) President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the supply of coal meeting the specifications required by steam power plants (PLTU) is running smoothly. “The primary energy supply (coal) that matches the specifications needed by our plants is proceeding without disruption,” Darmawan said in a voice recording confirmed by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday. As a result, he added, efforts to improve the electricity system on Java are progressing smoothly and gradually getting better. Darmawan conveyed that going forward, PLN will enhance coal supply chain governance and strengthen power plants so that the electricity system on Java can be continuously maintained and improved. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has observed challenges with medium-calorie coal, specifically with specifications around 5,200 kcal per kg GAR required by PLN’s plants. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia subsequently formed a team for the procurement of medium-calorie coal to address PLN’s supply challenges. He also opened the possibility of revising coal prices for PLN amid increasing production cost pressures on suppliers and the challenge of maintaining medium-calorie coal supplies.
