PT PLN (Persero) has stated that the increase in electricity bills experienced by some customers may be influenced by changes in electricity consumption patterns due to several factors, such as weather conditions, rising temperatures, and increased activity at home.

“Increased activity at home leads to an increase in the daily use of electrical appliances by customers,” said Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and CSR at PT PLN (Persero), when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Greg noted that members of the public can independently monitor their token purchase history and electricity bill payments. This self-monitoring, he added, can be conducted through the PLN Mobile application to help identify and manage electricity usage patterns more efficiently. To check usage history via PLN Mobile, users can open the application, select the “Token and Payment” menu on the main page, add their Customer ID, and then select “Usage History” for postpaid customers or “Token Purchase History” for prepaid customers.

Furthermore, PLN continues to urge customers to use electricity safely and wisely, including by periodically checking domestic electrical installations and unplugging unused electronic devices to keep energy consumption under control.

These statements come in response to widespread information circulating on social media regarding complaints about rising electricity bills. Several users on X (formerly Twitter) complained of electricity bills increasing by up to 100 per cent, accompanied by a surge in total energy consumption, despite feeling there had been no change in usage patterns or the addition of new electronic appliances. Meanwhile, other users on X reported that their electricity bills remained stable without any significant spikes.

Regarding allegations of electricity tariff hikes, PLN emphasised that there has been no increase in electricity tariffs, as established by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). For the April–June 2026 period, electricity tariffs remain fixed and have not changed from the previous period. “PLN emphasises that there is no increase in electricity tariffs,” Greg stated.
