PLN Restores Power in NTT, 429 Substations Back Online After Earthquake

State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit for East Nusa Tenggara (UIW NTT) has restored the electricity system after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Flores Sea on Saturday (15/8/2026). As of 11.30 WITA, 429 distribution substations that had previously experienced disruptions have been returned to normal operation.

General Manager of PLN UIW NTT F Eko Sulistyono said the restoration was carried out in stages by checking and repairing all parts of the electricity system. PLN had previously identified 3,478 distribution substations affected by disruptions caused by the earthquake.

“At present, the Maumere gas engine power plant has been declared safe and is part of the initial step in normalising the system,” Eko said in a statement on Saturday (15/8/2026).

In addition to distribution substations, PLN has also restored main substations affected by the earthquake. Of the 11 affected main substations, six have been re-energised and are operating.

Eko said PLN teams are still carrying out checks and repairs on various parts of the electricity system, from generation, transmission, main substations, to distribution networks.

In the restoration process, PLN is prioritising electricity supply for vital facilities, including hospitals and disaster posts. This priority is being implemented so that services for handling communities affected by the earthquake can continue to operate.

“We ask for the prayers and support of the public. All PLN personnel are committed to working tirelessly to restore electricity as quickly as possible. Safety is our top priority,” Eko said.
