PLN restores one large power plant in Java

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) has restored a large-capacity power plant in Java that had been experiencing technical problems since last week, enabling it to resume supplying electricity to Indonesia’s most populous island.

“There is good news. Last night, one large power plant was restored and synchronised with the electricity system in Java and has begun supplying power to the Java system,” said PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo at the State Palace, as quoted from an official government communication broadcast in Jakarta on Monday.

The return to operation of the large power plant immediately strengthened the interconnection system. Its re-entry significantly minimised the impact of rolling blackouts in the Java region.

Darmawan revealed that the facility which had suffered damage was one of two large power plants belonging to PLN’s partners that went offline due to technical problems on Friday (19/6).

To accelerate the recovery of the vital facility, PLN immediately deployed a specialist team. The handling was carried out collaboratively with the partner as the plant operator since last week.

With the large power plant back in operation, primary energy supplies that meet specifications are now flowing smoothly. These supplies are flowing well to both PLN-owned generating units and Independent Power Producers (IPP).

“Starting yesterday, Sunday, the condition of the electricity system in Java began to improve and rolling blackouts were successfully minimised,” said Darmawan.

To secure the operations of the restored plant and other units, PLN is now tightening supervision. Improvements to the primary energy supply chain management and strengthening of generating infrastructure continue to be prioritised.

“We are making all-out efforts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, both in monitoring and mapping all our efforts so that improvements to the reliability of the electricity system in Java can be maintained and even enhanced,” Darmawan stressed.

He also expressed appreciation for the cohesiveness of all supply and generation partners who moved quickly in the technical repair process, under the direction of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
