PLN reports 93.17 percent village electrification ratio in South and Central Kalimantan
Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan (ANTARA) — PT PLN (Persero) South and Central Kalimantan Distribution Main Unit (UID Kalselteng) recorded that by the first half of 2026, the electrified village ratio in its working area had reached 93.17 per cent.
“This achievement reflects the company’s commitment to providing electricity and equalising energy access for communities, even in the remotest areas,” said Iwan Soelistijono, General Manager of PLN UID Kalselteng, when contacted in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Wednesday.
The milestone was reached after PLN provided electricity services to 3,342 villages out of a total of 3,587 villages in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
The availability of electricity is one of the important foundations supporting regional development while improving the quality of life of communities.
He explained that in South Kalimantan, the electrified village ratio has reached 99.45 per cent, whilst in Central Kalimantan it stands at 85.11 per cent.
The diverse characteristics of the region have prompted PLN to continue adopting various approaches so that more villages can enjoy access to electricity.
Iwan said that equalising electricity access is a long-term investment that benefits communities while supporting regional progress.
“Electricity does not only provide lighting, but also opens opportunities for people to learn, run businesses, obtain better healthcare services, and develop the economic potential of their regions. That is why PLN continues to expand electricity access so that its benefits can be felt ever more widely,” said Iwan.
According to him, every village successfully connected to electricity is a concrete step towards equitable development. The presence of electricity opens opportunities for communities to grow their businesses, improve education and health services, and strengthen economic activity at the village level.
“We want every village to have the same opportunity to develop. With electricity, communities can carry out their activities more productively and open up new opportunities that have an impact on improving welfare,” he added.
Iwan affirmed that PLN UID Kalselteng continues to expand electricity access for villages not yet electrified through the construction of electrical infrastructure by making use of the Additional Budget Programme (ABT) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The programme is one of the strategic measures to accelerate the equalisation of energy access in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
Through these various efforts, PLN UID Kalselteng is committed to continuously raising the electrified village ratio as part of equalising energy access. The wider the reach of electricity, the greater the opportunities for communities to grow, increase productivity, and strengthen sustainable development in South and Central Kalimantan.
“Through the support of the Ministry of ESDM’s ABT programme, we are optimistic that more villages will soon be able to enjoy PLN electricity. We will continue to work in synergy with the government and all stakeholders so that the benefits of electricity can be felt more widely, while serving as a driver of development and community welfare down to the remotest corners,” said Iwan.
