Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) East Java stated that reliable electricity supply contributed to the smooth running of the 81st Independence Day celebrations in East Java.

“A number of standby and electricity security measures were carried out in various regions to ensure that the sacred activities and independence celebrations could run smoothly, safely, and without disruption,” said General Manager of PLN UID East Java Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho in a statement in Surabaya on Tuesday.

To support the smooth running of the independence commemoration series, PLN UID East Java prepared a total of 129 standby posts at 200 locations as well as 5,524 technical personnel on full alert during the security period.

PLN also conducted simulations and system inspections to ensure all equipment functioned optimally.

In Surabaya, PLN placed the electricity supply on full standby during the Flag Ceremony at Grahadi State Building on 17 August 2026, covering the main supply from the Grahadi feeder with a contracted capacity of 555 kVA.

As a backup system, PLN prepared supply from the Simpang Dukuh feeder reinforced by an 800 kVA generator and deployed 20 personnel to ensure all electrical systems functioned optimally.

The previous evening, Sunday (16/8), PLN deployed 26 personnel to support the smooth running of the Honour Roll Call and Sacred Reflection at the 10 November Heroes Cemetery in Surabaya, and prepared the main electricity supply and a 100 kVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).

Meanwhile in Situbondo, PLN ensured full readiness of electricity supply during the independence celebrations on 15-17 August 2026 by deploying a 147 kVA Automatic Change Over Low Voltage (ACOS TR), a 3-Way Motorized Load Break Switch (LBSM 3 Arah), and 32 personnel.

At Blambangan Park in Banyuwangi, the main location for the flag ceremony, PLN prepared the main electricity supply as well as a backup system consisting of a 10 kVA UPS and a 65 kVA generator.

In addition, 30 personnel were placed on full alert to carry out monitoring and various preventive measures, ranging from checking the network and distribution equipment to ensuring the readiness of mobile generators to anticipate emergency conditions.

In addition to maintaining the reliability of electricity supply, PLN prepared 302 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) units spread across 162 locations in East Java to support the mobility of electric vehicle users during the independence celebration period.

“The 81st Independence Day commemoration is a historic moment for the nation. We have prepared a layered security scheme, carried out network and equipment inspections, and placed standby personnel at various strategic locations,” said Eric.
