PLN Records Surge in SPKLU Transactions During Eid al-Fitr Homecoming
PT PLN (Persero) has recorded the all-time highest daily transactions for the use of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU). This surge occurred on Monday, 23 March 2026, or H+2 of Eid al-Fitr.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that on that day, the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging transactions reached 18,088, with energy consumption amounting to 427,980 kilowatt hours (kWh). This figure represents a 4.15-fold increase compared to the same period the previous year, which recorded 4,360 transactions and 103,010 kWh.
Darmawan said that the high daily transactions reflect the increasing public confidence in the reliability of electric vehicle infrastructure, particularly during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming momentum.
“This achievement demonstrates that the SPKLU development strategy—in terms of quantity, technology, and digital service integration—has boosted public trust in using electric vehicles, including for long-distance journeys,” Darmawan said, as quoted from a written statement on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
Alongside the rising adoption of electric vehicles, he noted that PLN, together with its partners, has provided 4,769 SPKLU units spread across 3,097 locations throughout Indonesia, with an average distance between SPKLUs of about 22 kilometres.
Specifically on the main homecoming routes of Trans Sumatra, Java, and Bali, there are 1,681 SPKLU units at 994 locations, both on toll roads and non-toll roads. This number has increased by around 70 per cent compared to the previous Eid al-Fitr period.
To anticipate the surge in demand, PLN also deployed 15 mobile SPKLU units at strategic points, particularly at toll exit gates. In addition, thousands of personnel were mobilised to ensure smooth SPKLU operations during the homecoming alert period.
“We have also prepared 15 mobile SPKLU units at strategic toll exit points to anticipate electric vehicle users needing emergency charging. Thousands of personnel have also been deployed to support the smooth operation of SPKLUs during the alert period,” Darmawan said.
In addition to increasing the number of infrastructures, PLN has also enhanced service quality through charging technology modernisation. Several SPKLUs with high occupancy rates have been upgraded from standard charging to fast charging and up to ultra-fast charging to accelerate the charging process.
PLN has also strengthened the digital service ecosystem through the Electric Vehicle Digital Services (EVDS) feature in the PLN Mobile app. This feature includes a Trip Planner to help users plan journeys with SPKLU location information, as well as AntreEV, which allows real-time queue monitoring.
