PLN Records Fivefold Surge in SPKLU Transactions in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Yogyakarta has recorded growth in transactions and power usage at Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) that has surged up to fivefold annually compared to the 2023 period. βThe growth has increased four to five times over, both in terms of transactions and electricity usage in kWh,β said Senior Manager of Non-Technical Affairs at PLN UID Yogyakarta, Deny Setiawan, on the sidelines of the Indomobil Expo at Pakuwon Mall Jogja on Tuesday. Deny noted that there are currently 32 SPKLU units managed by PLN in partnership with others, as well as 73 units owned by the private sector in operation, supported by around 750 independent home charging units for customers. He explained that this significant rise serves as a positive signal for the development of the automotive ecosystem, particularly the trend of electric vehicle use in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Deny stated that the high public interest in switching to electric vehicles is driven by operational efficiency factors, which are claimed to save up to 70% in usage costs compared to conventional vehicles. To expand coverage, Deny added, PLN is committed to adding new charging points through partnership schemes with investors and automotive manufacturers, involving the provision of land and supporting infrastructure. Deny mentioned that this year, PLN plans to add SPKLU points at several strategic locations such as Hotel Ambarrukmo, Sedayu, the Kulon Progo area, and the PLN Sleman office to serve the growing population of electric vehicles. In this partnership scheme, Deny added, PLN provides the integration platform, while partners contribute land and charging equipment to accelerate the equitable distribution of the environmentally friendly vehicle ecosystem in Yogyakarta.
