PLN Ready to Supply 511 MVA of Electricity for Data Centre in Indonesia
With a strong and reliable electricity infrastructure, not only does it ensure the continuity of industrial activities, but it also creates a conducive climate for investment. Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) is ready to supply electricity with a capacity of 511 megavolt amperes (MVA) for the global data centre project of PT Digitalland Service One (DayOne) at Kabil Industrial Estate, Batam, Riau Islands. “Electricity is the main driver of the economy. With a strong and reliable electricity infrastructure, not only does it ensure the continuity of industrial activities, but it also creates a conducive climate for investment and opens up more job opportunities,” said PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo in his official statement received in Jakarta on Monday. Darmawan stated that providing reliable and affordable electricity is an important foundation in driving the sustainability and growth of the industry. This step not only brings energy supply but also creates a multiplier effect that will drive national economic growth. This commitment is reflected through the signing of the Electricity Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) with the largest capacity for a data centre in Indonesia to date, namely 511 megavolt amperes (MVA). In line with that, President Director of PT PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, stated that the PLN Batam electricity system is ready to serve large-scale customers like DayOne. This readiness is supported by sufficient supply, system reliability, and maintained service quality. “We hope this cooperation benefits all parties and makes a real contribution to regional economic growth and improved investment climate in Batam. We are committed to maintaining the reliability of supply and electricity service quality to support sustainable industrial needs,” said Kwin Fo. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DayOne, Jamie Khoo, stated that the company’s expansion in the Batam area is part of a strategy to expand capacity and build a regional digital infrastructure platform in Asia. “This expansion is an important milestone in our strategy to build one of the leading digital infrastructure platforms in Asia. The sustainable development carried out in Batam, from Nongsa (industrial estate) to Kabil (industrial estate), reflects the increasingly strategic role of Batam in the company’s regional ecosystem,” said Jamie. He explained that this is also part of the company’s steps to develop the Singapore, Johor, and Riau (SIJORI) model as an integrated cross-border data centre platform in Southeast Asia. “Along with the expansion of development in Batam, we continue to increase capacity to deliver large-scale, high-performance data centre services to meet the growing needs for cloud and advanced computing in the Asia-Pacific,” said Jamie.
