PLN Power Outages in Sumatra Do Not Disrupt Toll Road Services
Responding to the condition of PLN power outages occurring in several regions of Sumatra, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has ensured that operational services on toll roads it manages continue to run normally and under control. All toll gates and supporting facilities affected have received backup power supply support through generators, ensuring transaction services, traffic management, and user facilities remain operational.
Hamdani, Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, stated that the company has taken anticipatory measures and rapid response across all affected stretches through regular monitoring, generator activation, strengthening of fuel oil (BBM) stock, and readiness of transaction support equipment.
“Since the electricity supply disruption occurred, the operational team in the field immediately activated backup power systems at affected toll gates and rest areas. To date, transaction services at toll gates continue to operate normally, traffic flow is monitored as smooth, and there are no significant queues due to this condition,” Hamdani said on Saturday (23 May).
Based on field monitoring reports, in the Southern Sumatra Regional area, which includes the Greater Terbanggi-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung (Terpeka), Palembang-Indralaya (Palindra), Indralaya-Prabumulih (Indraprabu), and Bengkulu–Taba Penanjung (Bengtaba) stretches, operational services are monitored as safe and continue to run normally.
Several affected points such as Prabumulih toll gate have been supported by generators with sufficient fuel stock, whilst Bengkulu toll gate continues to receive PLN electricity supply with generators on standby.
The Terpeka and Palindra stretches are monitored as safe with transaction services and traffic flow remaining normal and controlled.
In the Central Sumatra Regional area, which includes the Pekanbaru–Dumai (Permai), Pekanbaru–Bangkinang–XIII Koto Kampar (Pekbangkopar), and Padang–Sicincin (Pacin) stretches, operational services continue to run normally.
Several affected toll gates have been supported using generators, including at Sungai Pinang and Bangkinang toll gates, whilst some points such as XIII Koto Kampar toll gate and the Padang-Sicincin stretch have returned to receiving PLN electricity supply. Hutama Karya continues to monitor generator fuel availability at toll gates on the Permai stretch to ensure services remain optimal.
In the Northern Sumatra Regional area, which includes the Binjai–Langsa (Binsa), Indrapura–Kisaran (Inkis), and Sigli–Banda Aceh (Sibanceh) stretches, several affected toll gates and Rest and Service Areas (RSA) have been supported by generators, backup fuel stock, and transaction support equipment. Several points have also returned to receiving PLN electricity supply, whilst rest areas are ensured to continue operating with backup power support.
Meanwhile, for the Betung–Tempino–Jambi (Betejam) stretch, Pijoan toll gate and Muaro Sebapo toll gate are monitored as functioning normally with PLN electricity supply. Bayung Lencir toll gate continues to experience a power outage and has been supported by generators, including standby generator readiness and sufficient fuel stock. Traffic flow and transaction services on this stretch remain running normally and under control.
Hutama Karya affirms that all operational staff, traffic services, and maintenance teams remain on standby in the field to ensure toll road services remain safe, smooth, and comfortable for road users. Coordination continues to be conducted with relevant parties to monitor developments in PLN electricity supply and ensure backup power readiness at every service point.
“We urge road users to continue driving safely, ensure electronic money balance is sufficient before entering toll gates, and follow instructions from field officers. Hutama Karya will continue to provide the best service and ensure toll road operations remain maintained during this power outage situation,” Hamdani explained.
