PLN: One of Two Troubled Coal-Fired Power Plants Begins Recovery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has announced that one of the two coal-fired power plants (PLTU) that experienced technical disruptions has been successfully restored. “One of the power plants has been recovered,” Darmawan said in a voice recording confirmed by ANTARA to PLN in Jakarta on Monday. Darmawan explained that since Sunday (21/6) at 18.00 Western Indonesia Time, the restored PLTU has re-synchronised with the Java Island electricity system and begun supplying power to enhance the reliability of the grid. “As a result, the rolling blackouts that occurred last week have been minimised today,” Darmawan stated. “We are striving to ensure that the ongoing repairs can be maintained and continuously improved,” he added. On Friday (19/6), Darmawan disclosed that two PLTUs on Java Island had suffered technical faults, leading to rolling blackouts across the island. He noted that the technical disruptions occurred at Independent Power Producer (IPP) plants, causing both facilities to disconnect from the Java electricity system. This triggered rotating power cuts in several areas. Based on ANTARA’s monitoring, a number of regions in East Java, particularly Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Gresik, have frequently experienced power outages since last week at varying times. Some of these areas suffered sudden blackouts lasting between two and five hours a day. Last week, several main roads in Surabaya also experienced hours-long outages extending into the night, posing significant danger to motorists.
