PT PLN (Persero) Regional Unit for East Nusa Tenggara is moving quickly to restore the electricity system following the earthquake that occurred in the Flores Sea this morning, Saturday, 15 August 2026, at around 06.00 WITA.

General Manager of PLN UIW East Nusa Tenggara, Eko Sulistyono, said PLN personnel are continuing to maintain electricity operations in several areas.

“However, the aftershocks that occurred several times have impacted the electricity system, including the shutdown of the Maumere and Rangko gas engine power plants, causing power outages in several locations,” Eko said in a written statement on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake measured M7.0–M7.7 with its epicentre 30 kilometres northeast of Mbay-Nagekeo-NTT at a depth of 10 km, and a tsunami early warning was issued.

Currently, Eko said, PLN teams are carrying out a phased restoration, starting on the generation side with the diesel power plant in the Labuan Bajo area, which has been declared safe.

In addition, transmission networks and substations are being restored, along with electricity services to the public, while prioritising the safety of personnel and the community.

“PLN is also prioritising the restoration of electricity supply for vital facilities, including hospitals and disaster response posts, to support community needs in the post-earthquake situation,” he said.

PLN has urged the public to remain calm, not to panic, and to follow official information from BMKG and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). For electricity service information, the public can contact PLN Mobile and PLN Contact Centre 123.
