PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) is strengthening the national green hydrogen ecosystem through various innovations, including the development of Green Hydrogen Plants (GHP). “PLN Nusantara Power is not only producing green hydrogen, but is building its ecosystem comprehensively, from production, storage, and distribution, to its utilisation in the transportation, power generation, and industrial sectors,” said PT PLN Nusantara Power President Director Ruly Firmansyah in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday. Ruly stated that the success of the first GHP in Indonesia, inaugurated in 2023 at the Muara Karang Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU), serves as an important foundation for national hydrogen development. Starting from one production facility, he said PLN NP has now developed eight GHPs spread across various generating units in Java. The total production capacity from the GHPs in Muara Karang, Muara Tawar, Indramayu, Rembang, Tanjung Awar-awar, Gresik, Pacitan, and Paiton reaches 94.63 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. PLN NP also participated in the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition (GHES) 2026, held from 21 to 23 July 2026, by presenting various green hydrogen development innovations to support the national hydrogen ecosystem from upstream to downstream, Ruly said. In addition to the GHP, the innovations displayed included a mock-up of the Muara Tawar Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS), hydrogen vehicles (H-E Nusantara, FCEV Cruiser), information on the development of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generators (HFCG), and the utilisation of green hydrogen in various sectors. The H-E Nusantara is a hybrid electric vehicle based on Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) technology, resulting from a collaboration between PLN NP and ITS. Indonesia’s first hybrid vehicle can travel up to 270 km, with a hydrogen refuelling time of only about five minutes. “GHES 2026 is a momentum to show that Indonesia’s hydrogen innovation has entered a stage of real implementation and is ready to become an important part of realising national energy security and the Net Zero Emissions target,” Ruly said.
