PT PLN (Persero) continues to strengthen the reliability of the power system in various regions of Indonesia during the 2026 Ramadan and Idul Fitri alert period (RAFI), including North Sumatra. This is achieved through intensive efforts to ensure that community activities and worship can proceed comfortably.

PLN’s Director of Technology, Engineering and Sustainability, E. Haryadi, during a direct inspection of the readiness of the power system in the operational area of PLN’s North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit on Thursday (12/3/2026), stated that PLN has optimised digital-based operational systems and personnel readiness to maintain reliable electricity services during the 2026 RAFI alert period.

“PLN continues to ensure power system readiness through technology enhancement, preventive maintenance, and real-time system monitoring. This is important so that the public can carry out activities, especially worship during Ramadan up to Idul Fitri, comfortably without power disruptions,” said Haryadi.

The General Manager of PLN’s North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit (UID), Mundhakir, explained that the power system in North Sumatra has an installed capacity of 2,323 megawatts (MW) with a peak load of around 2,210 MW, thus still providing an adequate power reserve of about 113 MW.

“With the available power reserve, the power system in North Sumatra is in a safe condition to support community activities during Ramadan up to Idul Fitri,” said Mundhakir.

To maintain that reliability, PLN UID North Sumatra has also mobilised 3,318 personnel spread across 384 power alert posts. The personnel are equipped with various support tools, including 135 genset units, 96 Mobile Substation Units (UGB), 55 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, 164 operational vehicles, 225 motorcycles, and 22 crane trucks to accelerate services to the public in case of power disruptions.

“We also implement layered security at priority locations such as mosques, transportation hubs, shopping centres, and public facilities that become centres of community activity during Ramadan and Idul Fitri,” said Mundhakir.

To support the mobility of electric vehicle users, PLN UID North Sumatra has provided 113 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) spread across 91 locations, both on toll roads and non-toll roads.

In addition, to provide convenience for customers, PLN encourages the importance of accessing the PLN Mobile application. Through this app, customers can report power disruptions, purchase tokens, pay bills, and access features such as Trip Planner and AntreEV for electric vehicle users.

“PLN UID North Sumatra has prepared all distribution infrastructure to be in optimal condition, supported by personnel readiness at various strategic points. We are committed to delivering reliable electricity so that the public can perform Ramadan worship and celebrate Idul Fitri comfortably,” said Mundhakir.
