Medan (ANTARA) - PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Sumatera Utara is providing 113 units of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in the region to meet the needs of holidaymakers using electric vehicles during the 2026 Lebaran break.

“There are 113 SPKLU units available, spread across 91 strategic locations in North Sumatra,” said General Manager of PLN UID Sumatera Utara, Mundhakir, in Medan on Thursday.

Mundhakir stated that these strategic areas include main cross routes, city centres, public zones, and rest areas with high mobility levels.

Furthermore, he explained that the distribution of SPKLU in various places is intended to make it easier for electric vehicle users to plan their journeys without worrying about running out of power.

According to him, this infrastructure is provided to offer convenient access for electric vehicle holidaymakers to recharge during inter-city travels.

Mundhakir said that the readiness of SPKLU infrastructure is part of PLN’s commitment to supporting the national energy transformation towards clean and sustainable energy.

“The provision of SPKLU in various strategic locations is a tangible form of PLN’s support for energy transition and efforts to reduce carbon emissions, in line with the net zero emissions target for 2060,” he stated.

“We want to ensure that people using electric vehicles can travel safely, comfortably, and without obstacles,” he added.

This also forms part of PLN’s efforts to encourage a more environmentally friendly electrified lifestyle among the public.
