PLN North Sumatra: 11 Emergency Towers to Accelerate Power System Recovery

PT PLN (Persero) North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit (UID) has announced that 11 emergency towers are being utilised to accelerate the recovery of the electricity system following damage to transmission infrastructure caused by extreme weather in the region.

“The presence of all emergency towers is a vital milestone in accelerating the handling of the affected transmission infrastructure,” stated Mundhakir, General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra, in Medan on Sunday.

Mundhakir noted that PLN personnel are working day and night to expedite the construction of emergency towers in the affected areas of Serdang Bedagai Regency. Various stages of work are being conducted in parallel, ranging from material mobilisation and construction to the strengthening of the electrical operating system.

The arrival of the 11 emergency towers has also received support from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) to accelerate the mobilisation of strategic equipment required by PLN to restore the power system. C-130 Hercules and A400M heavy transport aircraft transported seven sets of emergency towers to Soewondo Air Base, Medan, to speed up the handling of infrastructure impacted by the extreme weather.

“These seven emergency towers consist of two sets dispatched from Jakarta, three sets from Balikpapan, and two sets from Banjarbaru,” he said. Additionally, four sets of emergency towers from North Sumatra, Aceh, and South Sumatra are currently still under preparation.

Mundhakir also apologised to customers still affected by load management during the recovery process. The company will continue to provide regular updates on the progress of the power system recovery through its official channels.
