Kupang (ANTARA) - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Unit Induk Wilayah (UIW) Nusa Tenggara Timur has activated electricity for residents on the Indonesia-Timor Leste border in Ainiut Village, Insana Subdistrict, North Central Timor Regency (TTU). Manager of PLN ULP Kefamenanu, Anak Agung Ngurah Maha Adisurya from Kefamenanu, said on Monday that the presence of electricity is expected to boost community welfare, especially after 81 years of living without adequate lighting. “We hope this electricity will not only serve as lighting but also drive economic growth, support children’s education, and enhance the quality of life for the community,” he stated. He added that the success of the electricity network construction would not have been possible without support from the local government, community leaders, religious figures, and active participation from residents. General Manager of PLN UIW NTT, F Eko Sulistyono, emphasised that the electrification in the village is part of the commitment to deliver energy justice to the remotest parts of the country. “PLN will continue to ensure the reliability of electricity supply to support MSMEs, the agricultural sector, and health services in the area,” he said. The inaugural activation of the electricity network was carried out by PLN Unit Layanan Pelanggan (ULP) Kefamenanu and was enthusiastically welcomed by hundreds of residents who crowded the location, marking the end of energy isolation in the border region. Head of Ainiut Village, Richard Octavian Taneo, described the arrival of electricity as the fulfilment of long-awaited basic needs for the community. According to him, the village government will continue to push for further development, including the provision of clean water and improvements to road infrastructure in the TTU-Malaka border area.
