PLN: Jakarta's Electricity Supply Secure Despite Ramadan-Eid Load Peak of 5.5 GW
Jakarta, Kompas.com — PT PLN (Persero) Distribution Unit (UID) Greater Jakarta has assured that electricity supply in the Jakarta region and surrounding areas remains secure during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr this year, despite projected increases in peak electrical load.
Jakarta’s peak electrical load is projected to reach 5,545 megawatts (MW) or approximately 5.5 gigawatts (GW), representing an increase of around 5.86 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.
General Manager of PLN UID Greater Jakarta Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin stated that Jakarta’s electrical system still maintains substantial power reserves.
“Electricity supply for PLN Greater Jakarta remains in a surplus position. God willing, we remain focused on supporting communities undertaking the Eid exodus and during Eid al-Fitr,” said Andy at the PLN UID Greater Jakarta office in Central Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
These power reserves have been prepared to ensure electricity demand remains met throughout the Ramadan to Eid period.
Specifically on Eid al-Fitr, Jakarta’s peak electrical load is actually projected to decline due to large numbers of residents undertaking mudik (exodus) migration.
“During Eid, the peak load could fall by around 2,000 MW. This decline occurs because many residents leave Jakarta for their hometowns,” said Andy.
Nevertheless, peak electrical load during the holiday is still estimated to increase approximately 1.3 per cent compared to the Eid al-Fitr period the previous year.
Overall, Jakarta’s peak electrical load during the holiday is estimated to reach approximately 3,886 MW or around 3.8 GW.
Beyond infrastructure, PLN has also mobilised personnel, equipment, and emergency posts at numerous strategic locations.
A total of 519 mosques throughout the Jakarta region are included in electrical safety monitoring during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Of these, two primary focal points for monitoring are Istiqlal Mosque and the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
PLN is also conducting special oversight at several areas anticipated to become centres of public gathering during the Eid holiday period.
