PLN IP Prepares 268 New Power Generation Projects with 30.2 GW Capacity Until 2034
Jakarta — PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is preparing the development of 268 power generation projects with a total additional capacity of 30.2 gigawatts (GW) by 2034. These projects are part of efforts to strengthen national energy resilience whilst supporting the transition towards clean energy.
The power plant development plan is implemented through the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) formulated by PT PLN (Persero).
PLN IP Chief Executive Officer Bernadus Sudarmanta stated that the company is committed to being a primary driver of national energy transition through the development of more environmentally friendly power generation facilities.
“Through the development of new power plants increasingly dominated by renewable energy sources as well as efforts to decarbonise existing plants, we are optimistic that we can support Indonesia’s net zero emission target by 2060,” said Bernadus in a written statement on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Overall, the development programme encompasses 268 power generation projects, consisting of 255 projects within the 2025 RUPTL allocation and 13 projects that have already received prior assignment.
In the roadmap towards Indonesia’s 2060 Net Zero Emission target, PLN IP targets a phased transformation of generation capacity from approximately 23 GW in 2025 to around 107 GW by 2060.
This transformation is carried out through two main strategies: constructing new low-emission to zero-carbon power plants, and optimising existing operating plants to be more efficient and lower-emission.
In addition to building new power plants, the company is also implementing various decarbonisation measures on existing plants.
