This marks an important milestone for PLN IP in integrating the development of solar power plants with global carbon monetisation schemes. Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is integrating the development of solar power plants (PLTS) with global carbon monetisation schemes. PLN Indonesia Power’s President Director, Bernadus Sudarmanta, stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the company is strengthening its business transformation efforts through the signing of an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) with DevvStream Inc. According to him, this signing is part of developing clean energy solutions based on solar PV in the beyond kWh portfolio. “This collaboration is an important milestone for PLN IP in integrating PLTS development with global carbon monetisation schemes,” he said. The collaboration agreement was signed by Bernardus Sudarmanta and DevvStream Corp CEO Sunny Trinh in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/2). The PLTS developed in this collaboration is an off-grid PLTS, used for self-needs, thus not connected to the main electricity grid and remaining aligned with applicable regulations in the environmental sector and carbon market. Through this scheme, PLN IP will produce Verified Emission Reduction (VER) certificates from PLTS projects at various locations in Indonesia, which will then be marketed through DevvStream as a global partner. Bernadus also emphasised that this step is part of the company’s strategy in developing a new, more sustainable business model. “The development of off-grid solar PV solutions is part of PLN Indonesia Power’s innovation in delivering clean energy solutions on the operational side while opening up carbon monetisation opportunities. This is a tangible manifestation of our transformation towards a beyond kWh business that adds more value,” he stated. He added that the beyond kWh concept championed by PLN IP not only focuses on electricity sales but also encompasses integrated energy services, including the provision of renewable energy power plants, carbon emission management, and optimisation of customer energy assets. In its implementation, this off-grid PLTS project is designed to support customers’ independent energy needs, improve energy efficiency, and directly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions without disrupting the existing electricity system. Meanwhile, Sunny Trinh said this collaboration opens up great opportunities for developing renewable energy-based carbon projects from Indonesia. “We see great potential in the off-grid solar PV model developed by PLN Indonesia Power. This is an innovative approach that not only provides environmental benefits but also creates new economic value through the global carbon market,” he stated. In addition to supporting the national decarbonisation agenda, this collaboration also reinforces PT PLN Indonesia Power’s role as a pioneer in developing customer-based energy solutions in Indonesia. Moving forward, Bernadus added, PLN IP will continue to expand the implementation of solar PV solutions as part of the energy transition strategy, while optimising opportunities from the carbon market to create sustainable revenue sources.
