JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is expanding its renewable new energy business into the international market by targeting a solar power plant (PLTS) project with a capacity of 495 megawatts (MW) in Bangladesh.

This move is marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PLN IP and Bay Group, a Bangladeshi conglomerate, to explore the development of a solar energy project in the country.

PLN Indonesia Power’s President Director, Bernadus Sudarmanta, stated that this cooperation is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its role in the global market, particularly in the renewable new energy sector.

“This is our first project in Bangladesh, and we greatly hope that this project will run well. We affirm that this cooperation is a strategic step for the company to strengthen its position in the global market,” said Bernadus in an official statement on Friday (15/5/2026).

In this project, Bay Group has designated its subsidiary, Copenhagen Urban Solar Parks BD LTD (CUSP), as the development partner.

CUSP is a Denmark-Bangladesh affiliated company operating in the field of solar energy development.

Bernadus explained that PLN IP’s participation in the Bangladesh PLTS project is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the global energy transition agenda while expanding its clean energy business portfolio.

According to him, this expansion move also reinforces the company’s position as one of the main players in the renewable energy-based power generation sector in the region.

Meanwhile, Bay Group’s Managing Director and CUSP Chairman, Ziaur Rahman, stated that PLN IP has strong experience and capabilities in the power generation sector.

“We see PLN IP as a partner with strong experience and capabilities in power generation. This cooperation is expected to support the sustainable development of solar energy in Bangladesh,” he said.

The collaboration between the two companies is expected to accelerate the development of clean energy infrastructure in Bangladesh, while increasing renewable energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
