PLN IP Bali conserves forest through Pesraman Agung programme

PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) Bali Power Generation Business Unit (UBP) is conserving forests and empowering communities through the Pesraman Agung programme.

In a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, the President Director of PLN Indonesia Power, Bernadus Sudarmante, stated that the Pesraman Agung programme serves as a model for empowerment based on the conservation of protected forests. The programme integrates environmental, social, cultural, and economic aspects within the Sandan Bamboo Forest area in Tabanan, Bali.

“This programme is designed to prove that environmental conservation and the improvement of community welfare can go hand in hand,” he explained.

Through a collaboration involving 17 stakeholders—ranging from government bodies and academics to communities and the private sector—the programme has successfully delivered a tangible impact on the forest-guarding communities in the surrounding area.

Bernadus continued by noting that one of the programme’s primary successes is the establishment of equitable water access for the community. Currently, 55 households enjoy access to clean water, while 86 plots of agricultural land covering 74 hectares have received adequate irrigation access.

Technological innovations, such as a hybrid water pump system and hydrant pumps, serve as the backbone of this sustainable water management system, providing concrete solutions for a community that previously faced limited access.
