PLN Involves 26 MSMEs in Papua Spark 2026
Jayapura (ANTARA) – PT PLN’s Papua and West Papua Regional Main Unit has involved 26 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Papua Spark 2026 to introduce the use of electricity and broaden business opportunities for entrepreneurs in Jayapura.
Roberth Rumsaur, general manager of PLN’s Papua and West Papua Regional Main Unit, said in Jayapura on Friday that the event served to educate the public about using electricity in everyday life, including to support business activities.
“Through this event, we want to educate the public about an electricity-based lifestyle. MSMEs do not only sell products; they can also use electricity in their production processes, for example by using electric stoves,” he said on the sidelines of the opening of Papua Spark 2026, held in the grounds of the Papua Governor’s Office in Jayapura on Friday.
Roberth said the participation of 26 MSMEs was expected to boost economic transactions and give business owners an opportunity to introduce their products to the public.
He said the two-day event was also an opportunity to present the use of electricity as part of a shift towards a more sustainable energy lifestyle.
He explained that people in Papua were beginning to adapt to using electricity, including by learning about electric vehicles as an alternative energy option for transport.
“Besides showcasing products and the uses of electricity, the event also provides a space for the public to learn about developments in electricity technology and the opportunities to use it in everyday activities,” he added.
He also said that the electricity supply in Jayapura was secure and sufficient to meet public demand.
“Jayapura’s electricity supply is supported by several power plants, with reserve capacity of around 30–40 megawatts. Meanwhile, electricity systems in several parts of Papua still operate separately and are not yet connected to a single interconnected grid,” he said.
