PLN Instils Electrical Safety Culture in Yogyakarta Students

Awareness of electrical safety needs to be instilled from an early age. This commitment was realised by PLN’s Yogyakarta Distribution Unit (UID) through an educational activity for dozens of Grade 4 students from SD INTIS School Yogyakarta at the PLN UID Yogyakarta SPKLU Centre on Wednesday (29/7/2026). During the activity, the students were not only introduced to the safe use of electricity but were also invited to see first-hand the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) facilities and learn about the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

PLN UID Yogyakarta’s Assistant Manager for K3L and Security, Ahmad Masruri, explained that safety education is a preventive measure to build safe habits in using electrical energy from school age. ‘We invite children to understand that electricity is very beneficial in daily life, but it must still be used correctly. We advised them not to use electrical equipment without parental supervision, to be careful when using electronic devices, and not to fly kites near power lines as it can endanger themselves and the public,’ Masruri explained.

The material was delivered interactively. The students enthusiastically raised their hands to ask questions about electricity, how SPKLU works, and electric vehicles. This enthusiasm demonstrated the high curiosity of the younger generation regarding developments in electrical technology. Asti, the Grade 4 homeroom teacher at SD INTIS School Yogyakarta, appreciated the opportunity given by PLN for the students to learn directly within the company’s work environment. She also hoped the knowledge gained could be utilised by her students at school and at home.

‘We would like to thank PLN UID Yogyakarta for the extraordinary welcome. The children were very enthusiastic about participating in the entire series of activities. Our hope is that the knowledge they gained today can be applied in their daily lives so they better understand the importance of using electricity safely at home and in their surroundings,’ said Asti. General Manager of PLN UID Yogyakarta, Deri Prasetio Utomo, stated that education for students is part of PLN’s efforts to build a culture of electrical safety starting from the family and school environment. ‘We express our gratitude for the trust of SD INTIS School Yogyakarta in choosing PLN as a place of learning. PLN is always open to the public who wish to learn about the world of electricity. PLN offices are not only places for customer service but also educational spaces to improve public literacy regarding electrical safety, energy transition, and the use of electric vehicles,’ said Deri. He hopes that this kind of education can produce safety agents within the family environment. According to him, children who understand the importance of electrical safety will become effective messengers to their parents, siblings, and friends. ‘Thus, the culture of using electricity safely can spread more widely within the community,’ Deri said. The activity concluded with a group photo session in front of the PLN UID Yogyakarta SPKLU Centre as a symbol of collaboration between PLN and the education sector in building a generation that cares about electrical safety and is ready to embrace the clean energy era.
