PLN Holds Power Plant Reliability Drill, Ready to Support MotoGP Mandalika 2026
PT PLN (Persero) has conducted a Power Plant Reliability Readiness Drill as part of its electrical preparations to support the MotoGP Mandalika 2026 event, scheduled to take place from 9–11 October 2026 in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
Hundreds of personnel have been deployed to maintain the reliability of power plants, primary energy supplies, supporting equipment, and electrical control systems at priority locations throughout the international racing event.
The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, expressed his appreciation for PLN’s promptness in preparing the electrical system reliability to support the international event. He noted that electricity is a vital component in the success of the MotoGP Mandalika 2026 series.
“We appreciate PLN’s readiness in preparing the electrical system comprehensively. Reliable electrical support is a crucial factor in the success of MotoGP Mandalika 2026, as West Nusa Tenggara will be under international spotlight,” said Muhamad Iqbal.
PLN’s Director of Power Generation Management, Rizal Calvary Marimbo, emphasised that PLN will go all out in overseeing the entire global-scale racing competition. Power plant readiness serves as a fundamental pillar in maintaining a reliable electricity supply during the event.
“International events such as MotoGP require electrical support with a high level of reliability. Therefore, we are ensuring all aspects of our generation are in a ready state, ranging from generation units, primary energy, and personnel to control systems and backup equipment,” stated Rizal.
MotoGP Mandalika 2026 will be powered by the Lombok electrical system, which has a supply capacity of up to 438 megawatts (MW). The peak load for the Lombok system during the 2026 MotoGP is projected at 391 MW, leaving a power reserve of 47 MW.
The General Manager of PLN’s Power Generation Main Unit (UIK), Dwipantara Sujana, stated that in addition to large power plants, the company has completed the mobilisation of generators to the Mandalika Circuit area to strengthen reliability within the circuit vicinity.
Furthermore, 30 support vehicles and adequate spare materials for fault repairs have been prepared to accelerate response times in the event of emergencies.
“We are ensuring all power generation units are in operational readiness, supported by adequate primary energy availability. We are also strengthening field readiness through the placement of backup generators, standby personnel, support vehicles, and spare materials so that any potential abnormal conditions can be handled quickly and coordinately,” said Sujana.
Sujana added that the electrical system readiness for MotoGP Mandalika 2026 is further bolstered by the operation of the Green Genset Control Room (GGCR) innovation located at the Mandalika Circuit area.
The GGCR functions as a coordination and monitoring post for power generation conditions during the MotoGP event. This facility is operated using solar energy. The presence of the GGCR is part of PLN’s efforts to increase the speed and accuracy of system control during the standby period.
“Through the Green Genset Control Room, the monitoring and control process can be conducted more quickly, integratively, and responsively. This innovation is also part of our spirit to integrate operational reliability with the use of more environmentally friendly energy,” said Sujana.
Currently, PLN has prepared a total of 19 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, seven generator units, three Mobile Substation (UGB) units, and has placed over 500 personnel in the field to support the success of MotoGP Mandalika 2026.
Continuously, PLN is also monitoring the condition of electrical infrastructure and maintaining coordination with all parties to accommodate power requirements and ensure a reliable electricity supply throughout the event.
