PLN has provided an explanation regarding the electricity blackouts that lasted several hours yesterday in a number of regions across Indonesia, including on Madura Island, stating they were not caused by a shortage of power supply.

The Manager of PLN’s Madura Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3), Fahmi Fahresi, stated that the blackouts occurring in various areas depended on local system conditions, operational needs, and ongoing technical works.

“This happens because, in operating the electricity system, PLN consistently carries out measured operational adjustments and settings to maintain system reliability and ensure the quality of service to customers is preserved,” he said in a press statement delivered in Pamekasan, East Java, on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.

As is known, simultaneous blackouts lasting for hours occurred in several regions on 9 June 2026, including Depok, Bogor, Gresik, and parts of Madura Island, specifically in Pamekasan Regency. PLN continuously undertakes various efforts to anticipate the year-on-year growth in electricity demand.

According to Fahmi, these efforts are carried out through strengthening electricity infrastructure, maintaining and improving network reliability, optimising system operations, and intensive coordination with all units and related parties, including local governments.

“For the Madura region, PLN is also continuously strengthening the electricity system and carrying out network maintenance in a gradual and measured manner,” he said.

According to him, these steps are taken to ensure the power supply remains reliable whilst supporting the future growth needs of the community, customers, and the business sector.
