PLN Executing 22.57 GW Renewable Energy Projects through May 2026
PT PLN (Persero) has recorded significant progress in the implementation of new and renewable energy (EBT) power plant projects, which serve as the backbone of the national energy transition. As of May 2026, the company is executing renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 22.57 gigawatts (GW).
This figure is equivalent to 43 per cent of the renewable energy mix target set in the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL). The President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that the renewable energy portion in the latest RUPTL reaches 76 per cent, or equivalent to 52.8 GW of the total planned additional generation capacity through 2034.
“As of May 2026, PLN is executing renewable energy-based electricity projects amounting to 22.57 GW,” said Darmawan during a hearing with Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR) in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
According to Darmawan, within one year of the publication of the 2025-2034 RUPTL, PLN has implemented the ‘Beyond the Greenest RUPTL’ programme, targeting the development of renewable energy plants and energy storage systems reaching 52.6 GW by 2034. Of this total capacity, 16.53 GW is currently in the procurement stage, 5.26 GW has entered the construction phase, and 0.78 GW (780 megawatts) has reached the commercial operation date (COD).
In addition to projects currently in the execution phase, PLN has also noted that renewable energy projects with a capacity of 30.24 GW have entered the study and feasibility assessment stage. Darmawan noted that all project developments are continuously monitored by the government through strict reporting mechanisms to ensure the energy transition targets proceed according to plan.
Beyond the programmes within the RUPTL, PLN is also carrying out various additional mandates from the government, such as rural electrification programmes and the development of new clean energy-based generation capacities.
In the near future, Darmawan stated that the government will launch the first phase of the renewable energy ‘quick wins’ programme. This includes the construction of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 39 gigawatt hours (GWh) and renewable energy plants with a capacity of 17 gigawatt peak (GWp).
According to Darmawan, this programme could help reduce the consumption of fuel oil (BBM) currently used for power generation, while simultaneously increasing the utilisation of domestic and renewable energy. “Through this programme, the use of imported energy can be replaced by domestic energy, while simultaneously driving the transition from fossil energy to renewable energy,” he added.
