PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) has won two awards at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Awards 2026 for its corporate communication programmes highlighting energy transition and sustainability issues.

PLN EPI Corporate Secretary Mamit Setiawan, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, noted that PLN EPI received the Award of Merit in the Impactful Public Relations Awards (IMPRA) category, specifically under the Best Media Relations subcategory, for the programme “Gas Kita (Gasification for Us): Uniting Stories, Driving the Energy Transition”.

The second award was achieved in the Impactful Communications Awards (ICOMMA) category, under the Best Sustainability Communications subcategory, for the programme “Desa Berdaya Energi Gunungkidul, From Activity to Impact: Empowering Communities for Sustainable Energy”.

Mamit stated that these awards serve as both appreciation and motivation for the company to continue delivering communication that is relevant, transparent, and impactful for stakeholders.

“This award is an appreciation of the collective efforts of all PLN EPI personnel in delivering communication that does not only convey information but also builds public understanding and trust. We will continue to strengthen credible and impactful communication, in line with PLN EPI’s business transformation and sustainability commitment,” said Mamit.

Head of the IABC Indonesia Awards 2026 Committee, Jeane Niode Sindy, remarked that the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology makes trust and real impact increasingly important in communication practices.

“Technology can accelerate processes, but integrity, empathy, and the human touch remain the primary determinants of an institution’s reputation,” said Jeane. According to her, the IABC Indonesia awards are not merely a trophy presentation but a form of appreciation for innovative, accountable, and public-interest-oriented communication practices.

In the Best Media Relations category, PLN EPI highlighted the Gas Kita programme, which communicates the role of gasification in optimising domestic gas utilisation, reducing dependence on fossil fuels (BBM), and supporting the energy transition agenda. The programme was developed through communication management and media relations to build understanding regarding the role of gas in the energy sector transformation.

Meanwhile, the “Desa Berdaya Energi Gunungkidul” programme in the Best Sustainability Communications category highlighted the development of a biomass ecosystem that is not solely focused on energy provision. The programme showcased aspects of community empowerment as well as the social, economic, and environmental benefits arising from the development of the biomass ecosystem at the local level.

Mamit stated that both programmes reflect PLN EPI’s communication approach, which connects business strategy with benefits that are understandable and felt by the community.

“Communication is a vital part of building public understanding and trust regarding business transformation, energy transition, and the company’s sustainability programmes,” he added.

Through integrated communication, PLN EPI continues to strengthen the engagement of media and stakeholders in supporting the energy transition and sustainable development agenda.

“This achievement serves as a boost for PLN EPI to develop adaptive, measurable, and impact-oriented communication practices, while simultaneously strengthening public understanding of the company’s role in maintaining national energy security,” said Mamit.
