PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) is strengthening its zero waste culture through the management of sorted waste and the recycling of textile products. Company Secretary Mamit Setiawan stated that the firm is continuously reinforcing the implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles through integrated waste management in the workplace. Throughout January to May 2026, PLN EPI managed 460 kilogrammes of sorted waste, consisting of 69 kilogrammes of organic waste, 390.9 kilogrammes of inorganic waste, and 226 kilogrammes of residual waste. All sorted waste is then managed according to its characteristics, from processing into compost and recycling into new raw materials, to the responsible handling of residue, thereby minimising the burden on landfills. The waste sorting is carried out in cooperation with Waste4Change and Eco Touch. In addition to daily waste management, PLN EPI has also initiated the collection of wearable clothing through a collaboration with Eco Touch as part of efforts to extend the life cycle of textile products and reduce fashion waste. Cumulatively up to May 2026, PLN EPI collected 182.95 kilogrammes of used clothing for subsequent recycling. Mamit said that waste management is not merely an operational activity, but is part of the sustainability culture that the company continues to build. “Sustainability starts from daily habits, through sorting waste at the source. We want to build awareness among all PLN EPI personnel that every individual has a role in reducing environmental impact. Small steps taken consistently will have a big impact on sustainability,” Mamit stated. According to Mamit, the collaboration with Waste4Change is part of the company’s effort to present a waste management system that is more measurable, transparent, and responsible. Beyond ensuring waste is managed according to environmental principles, this cooperation also allows the company to periodically monitor its waste reduction achievements as part of ESG implementation. In addition to providing waste sorting facilities, PLN EPI also routinely educates employees on the importance of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling, so that waste management becomes part of the corporate work culture. Looking ahead, Mamit said PLN EPI will continue to expand various sustainability initiatives within the company, from educating employees to be wise in managing waste and implementing waste reduction programmes, to increasing employee participation in various environmental conservation programmes. These efforts are part of the company’s commitment to creating increasingly environmentally friendly operations while supporting a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia.
