PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) is strengthening coal procurement coordination for steam power generation plants (PLTUs) to maintain reliable national electricity supply. This is being undertaken through monthly scheduling meetings involving power generators and coal suppliers, forming part of efforts to strengthen the primary energy logistics system.

PLN EPI’s Corporate Secretary Mamit Setiawan stated that the company acts as the coal procurement executor based on requirements established by PLN, PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP), and PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP).

“PLN EPI functions as the procurement executor based on authority granted by PLN, PLN IP, and PLN NP to meet requirements determined by PLTU operators,” he said.

In implementation, PLN EPI ensures the procurement process runs through intensive coordination between PLN, power generation subsidiaries, and coal suppliers. Through this forum, decisions are made regarding shipping schedules, delivery destinations, supply volumes, and coal sources for each power plant.

“This mechanism takes into account generator requirements and agreements between coal suppliers and PLTUs,” Mamit stated.

This coordination strengthening forms part of efforts supporting national energy resilience, in line with government policy through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal (Ditjen Minerba).

The government has placed energy security as a strategic priority, including in the energy self-sufficiency mission that forms part of the national development agenda.

Reliable coal supply for PLTUs is considered an important factor in maintaining stability of the national electrical system, with direct impacts on economic growth and community welfare.

PLN EPI views solid coordination between power generators, coal suppliers, and regulators as key to maintaining sustainable primary energy supply.

“Through this mechanism, it is hoped that domestic coal supply can be maintained and prioritised for national power generation requirements,” Mamit concluded.
