PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) has partnered with PT Bumi Wiralodra Indramayu (BWI) to supply rice husk biomass for cofiring at the Indramayu coal-fired power plant in West Java.

PLN EPI Biomass Director Hokkop Situngkir stated on Thursday in Jakarta that the collaboration is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the national bioenergy ecosystem and support the energy transition and net zero emissions (NZE) targets.

“This collaboration is a strategic step to enhance the use of agricultural waste-based biomass in the region,” he said.

Under the agreement, PLN EPI is acting on behalf of PT PLN Nusantara Power as the end-user of the biomass at the Indramayu coal-fired power plant.

PLN EPI and BWI are also committed to building a long-term partnership through continuous coordination and strengthened business governance to ensure sustainable biomass supply as part of the national energy transition strategy.

Hokkop noted that the performance and production capacity of rice husk biomass could still be significantly improved.

In fact, he said, a production target of 3,200 to 3,300 tonnes per month is not difficult to achieve.

“It just depends on technical adjustments in the production and operations teams,” he added.
