PLN Ensures Reliable Electricity in North Sumatra Ahead of Eid al-Fitr
PT PLN (Persero) has ensured the reliability of the electricity system in North Sumatra during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr (RAFI) preparedness period in 2026 to support the smooth running of community activities and worship.
PLN’s Director of Technology, Engineering and Sustainability, E. Haryadi, emphasised that the company has optimised digital-based operational systems and enhanced personnel readiness. These steps were taken through preventive maintenance and real-time system monitoring to keep electricity supply stable.
“PLN continues to maintain the readiness of the electricity system through strengthened technology, preventive maintenance, and real-time system monitoring. This is important so that the public can carry out activities, especially worship during Ramadan up to Eid al-Fitr, comfortably without electricity disruptions,” said Haryadi during his inspection of readiness in the PLN North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit work area.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of PLN North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit, Mundhakir, explained that the electricity system’s capable capacity in the region reaches 2,323 megawatts (MW) with a peak load of around 2,210 MW. Thus, there is a power reserve of about 113 MW, which is deemed sufficient to maintain the reliability of electricity supply during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period.
“With the available power reserve, the electricity system in North Sumatra is in a safe condition to support community activities during Ramadan up to Eid al-Fitr,” Mundhakir clarified.
To support this reliability, PLN North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit has prepared 3,318 personnel spread across 384 standby posts. The personnel are equipped with various tools, including 135 generator units, 96 Mobile Substation Units (UGB), 55 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, 164 operational vehicles, 225 motorcycles, and 22 crane trucks to speed up disruption handling.

Layered security measures are also implemented at priority locations such as mosques, transportation hubs, shopping centres, and public facilities that become activity centres for the public during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
In addition, PLN North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit has provided 113 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) at 91 locations, both on toll roads and non-toll roads, to support the mobility of electric vehicle users.
PLN also encourages the public to utilise the PLN Mobile application, which provides various services, from reporting disruptions, purchasing tokens, paying bills, to the Trip Planner and AntreEV features for electric vehicle users.
“We have prepared all distribution infrastructure to be in optimal condition, supported by personnel readiness on standby at various strategic points. We are committed to delivering reliable electricity so that the public can carry out Ramadan worship and celebrate Eid al-Fitr comfortably,” Mundhakir concluded.
